Indonesia Strengthens Global Arbitration Cooperation Through MoU with the Arbitration Court of the Polish Chamber of Commerce

INFOPOLISI.NET | WARSAW — The Indonesian Dispute Board (Dewan Sengketa Indonesia/DSI), also known internationally as the Indonesia Dispute Board (IDB), has reinforced Indonesia’s legal diplomacy by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Arbitration Court at the Polish Chamber of Commerce. The signing ceremony took place in Warsaw, Poland, on Monday, 9 February 2026, as part of DSI’s broader International Visit to Austria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary.

The MoU marks a significant milestone in strengthening institutional cooperation between Indonesia and Europe in the field of international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR). The agreement is designed to promote mutual exchange of expertise, capacity building for arbitrators, and the enhancement of professional and ethical standards in handling cross-border commercial and investment disputes.

Representatives of the Arbitration Court at the Polish Chamber of Commerce welcomed the partnership, describing DSI as a strategic partner from Southeast Asia.

“This cooperation reflects a shared commitment to advancing modern, independent, and internationally trusted arbitration mechanisms. Indonesia plays an increasingly important role in global trade, and this partnership opens meaningful opportunities for long-term institutional dialogue and collaboration,” the Polish Arbitration Court stated.

President of the Indonesian Dispute Board, Prof. Sabela Gayo, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., CPL., CPCLE., ACIArb., CPM., CPArb., CPLI., emphasized that the MoU represents more than a formal agreement.

“This memorandum is a strategic step in Indonesia’s legal diplomacy. It demonstrates our commitment to building international trust in Indonesia’s dispute resolution system and to aligning our practices with globally recognized arbitration standards,” Prof. Sabela said.

She noted that cooperation with one of Europe’s respected arbitration institutions would significantly enrich Indonesia’s arbitration ecosystem.

“Europe has a long-standing legal tradition in arbitration. Through this partnership, DSI seeks to learn from best practices while also sharing Indonesia’s growing experience in resolving commercial and investment disputes within emerging markets,” she explained.

Prof. Sabela further highlighted the relevance of the MoU to global investment confidence.
“Legal certainty and credible dispute resolution mechanisms are fundamental to sustainable investment. By expanding our international network, DSI actively contributes to positioning Indonesia as a secure, reliable, and attractive destination for international investors,” she stated.

Concluding her remarks, Prof. Sabela expressed hope that the agreement would evolve into a long-term and impactful partnership.
“We envision this MoU as the foundation for continuous collaboration, including joint training programs, arbitrator certification, academic exchanges, and arbitration research, benefiting both institutions and the wider international business community,” she concluded.

The signing of the MoU in Warsaw underscores DSI’s ongoing commitment to strengthening global arbitration cooperation, promoting legal certainty, and supporting international trade and investment through a transparent and professional dispute resolution framework. (Red)
